Mulhouse

Mulhouse (east France, very close to the German border) was the destination for a visit to the "Eglise de la Porte Ouverte". With more than 2,000 members it is France's biggest evangelical church. We went for a leader's conference and it was really encouraging to see what God is doing there. We stayed at a guesthouse in Germany belonging to one of the church members and had a day before the conference to visit Mulhouse.

This weekend it's: M+D P

Mum and Dad P were doing the "Tour de France" and came to us for a long, fun-packed weekend. We visited the chateau at Villandry with its spectacular gardens, enjoyed a walk along the Loire and cheered Zac on at the Villeveque triathlon (see separate post).

Villevêque Triathlon

One of Sarah's colleague's husbands needed a team member to do the bike and run of the Villeveque triathlon. Zac was happy to oblige of course! A lovely sunny day and a great setting, only 15 km from Angers. Great to have Zac's Mum and Dad there too to cheer them on...

Le Croisic

Last day of August, last day with Juliet and possibly the last day to go tot he beach and swim in the sea this summer so off we headed to Le Croisic a really pretty coastal town. We had a wander around, galette/crêpes lunch and then hit the beach - two of us to lie in the sun and read, one set off for a run........then cool off in the sea.

This weekend it's: Juliet

Well after 3 failed attempts over 18 months Juliet finally made it to visit us - yippee!

Sarah dropped Zac off at work at Airbus in Nantes and picked Juliet up round the cornerat the airport and off they went on a jaunt to see the sea. A walk along the coast, picnic lunch at the Gois causeway over to the island of Noirmoutier, a drive over the bridge onto the island and up to the main town, a quick pootle round and hot chocolate/coffee, drive back over the Gois watching the hundereds of people out collecting mussels,
then back to pick up Zac from work - and that was just the first day!
The hot air balloons were still around and this time at the Lac d Maine so we went to see. They didn't take off as it was too windy.

Sarah and Juliet went up to the château for the view

and for a tour round Angers on the petit train:

Sarah did discover a few new things about Angers.

Lots of fun.

This weekend it's: Hels

Hels took a break from her family holiday in the Vendee, stole her brother's 7 seater and nipped over to hang out with us for a couple of days. We are very grateful to her neice and nephew for giving her permission to come on a French sleepover!
Great timing as she was able to join us for the hot air balloon festival (see below).
We went to church, had a bbq and reteated inside to escape the heat, chill out, chat and doze (Zac).
We did go for a stroll at the lake before Hels headed back off on holiday.

Championnat d’Europe de montgolfières

This year's
European Hot Air Balloon Competition was held at Brissac and around the region.

We went to the opening evening which was stunning. Hundreds of colourful ballons in the sky, great company (Hels), live entertainment, a sound and light 'nightglow' show with the balloons lit up and a fantastic firework display. Only unfortunate incident was having to queue for 2 hours for some food - galettes and crêpes! And of course Sarah took loads of photos................

Jam

Lots of soft fruit around at the market at the moment so thought we'd try out the jam-making function of the breadmaker. Success: very yummy apricot jam.
